Our property management company replaced our Carrier unit with a Comfort Star condensing unit. The unit was replaced at the end of summer last year. The new unit was barely a year old, with not many hours of use as it was replaced at the end of summer last year when during the hottest week in June it it stopped working. We live in Southern California and there's been a heat wave. Lucky me. They tried to cheap out and it's going to cost more in the long run. We haven't had ac for over a week. As the other reviewer stated, we had the same problems with the Comfort Star Split unit we purchased. It worked for the first year then the condenser went bad. Not only did the Comfort Star Customer Service rep hang up on us (!), after 8 phone calls and having service a/c repair techs look at it, they refused to honor the warranty stating they no longer make the unit we purchased. We bought a comfort star heat pump. It worked fine during the summer and we thought it was working during the winter, but it wasn't the compressor went bad, It wasn't even six months old. We had the compressor replaced, had to pay shipping and the cost of the repairs. Six months later the compressor went bad again, they offered to sell me another unit. I would never buy any thing from them again, and I'm warning others not to buy this product from this company, I hope this keeps people from making the same mistake that I did. I should have... I bought a Comfort Star heat pump. The heat pump works great in the summer time it cools the house off great, but in the winter time when it gets around freezing the heat pump turns into a block of ice and stops heating. I found out that there is a problem in the defrost board which keeps the heat pump from freezing. Even under warranty I have to pay for the labor for a service tech to come out and work on it. Right out of the box the manufacturer knew there was a bad part but still kept on selling there product at the cost of the consumer. ... Read more
